A fixed board gives each topic a defined space. Your layout stays within the screen, so you can return to it without panning around or zooming out to get your bearings.

Place related ideas together, connect them with lines, and follow a board link when a subject needs its own space. A card can hold longer notes without making the whole board larger.

Frequently asked questions

Why a fixed board rather than an infinite canvas?
A fixed board keeps the layout within one screen. You decide what belongs together and link to another board when a topic needs more space. Longer notes open in an expanded card view.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Thoughtogram runs in your browser at thoughtogram.com and needs nothing installed. Two optional Chrome extensions come with it if you want them: a web clipper for saving pages to a board, and a screenshot tool for capturing one. Both are extras rather than requirements.
Is my data private?
Your boards are private to your account. Traffic is encrypted in transit over HTTPS and your card contents are encrypted at rest on the server. There is no AI reading your notes and no sharing by default. You can export everything to Markdown whenever you like.
Is it really one payment?
Yes. One payment of $39 and the app is yours to use for as long as the service runs, with no subscription and no board limits. If it is ever discontinued you get at least 90 days notice and a full export first.
Can I use Thoughtogram on my phone?
Partly, and deliberately so. The board is a desktop thinking space: a layout designed to be read at a glance cannot shrink to a phone screen without becoming unreadable. There is a mobile capture view for adding notes and clippings on the move, and for reading your cards in a column.
What happens if I open a board on a smaller screen?
Cards that overhang the edge are moved back in, keeping the rest where they are, the way you would move index cards onto a smaller desk. Nothing is hidden and nothing is deleted.
What makes Thoughtogram different?
Thoughtogram combines a fixed board with freely linked boards. You can arrange cards precisely, connect them by dragging their borders, and create board links by typing a name in square brackets.
